What is it? Sorrisi (sore-REE-see) creates whimsical, classically designed and fashionably functional Tooth Fairy pillows. Passionately committed to a child’s smile – Sorrisi means ‘smile’ in Italian – the company gives a full 50% of profits to sending teams of dental professionals to Liberia and Mali to address children’s most desperate oral needs. In many of the designs, it takes a trained eye to find the pocket, which of course can be used year-round for treasures far beyond the common tooth!

Seeing children in need receive crisis dental care defines the heart of Sorrisi, but its fantastically fun Tooth Fairy pillows make that critical work possible. These generously sized, 14” square pillows come in 12 creative designs from ‘Cowboy’ and ‘Campout’ to ‘Bohemian’ and ‘Birds Nest.’ Each designer pillow is made from durable, high-quality fabric. Filled with a super-soft pillow form, each Sorrisi Tooth Fairy pillow is also zippered to make cleaning just a little easier.

As a child’s brain requires tactile stimulation for grounding, and that it is often a necessary element in self-soothing, every pillow has incredible variety in texture. A range of fabrics and notions are used in each design, providing children a tactile experience as well as a visual one.

Story Ideas:

1. A Gift That Grows with the Child – Beautiful in the nursery and used for treasure hiding as well as teeth, these creative gifts are made so well that they can be put away for the next generation. Sorrisi Tooth Fairly pillows break the “blanket and outfit” baby shower gift mold.

2. Imagination! – In today’s Internet age, imagination is now often limited to video games and computers. Many parents no longer know how to enjoy and appreciate the imagination of a child, and don’t see the necessity and value in exploring the mind’s eye. Is there a place for the Tooth Fairy in our high-tech world? Sorrisi believes there is.

3. A Pillow Made in Africa – Design Debuted June 2010 – The pillow has an African theme and is made of hand-dyed batik fabric constructed by women in the Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana.  Each unique pillow features different fabric textures, and individually made clay buttons are used for the back enclosure. As an added touch, each pillow has the seamstress’ name stitched in the back. The African-themed pillows will be available to consumers in the Fall of 2010.

4. Supporting Women and Children who are Vulnerable – By providing business to the women who are dying the fabric and constructing the African-themed pillow (design debuted June 2010), Sorrisi is helping them to meet the basic health needs for themselves and their children, making them less vulnerable to illness and violence.

What else? Sorrisi really is a family business. All three of founder Elisa Hope’s children have a voice in the creation of the Tooth Fairy pillows. The tropical fish design was Spencer’s drawing after visiting the Seattle Aquarium, and most of the designs came from the minds of her kids. All have helped in the choosing of fabrics and notions, and all three have heard the stories of children from Liberia and Mali suffering from dental issues and want to make a difference.

Who makes it? Elisa Hope has been married for almost 19 years to Brian, her high school sweetheart, and has 3 children, Michaela, Logan and Spencer. She and her family reside in the Seattle area where she is in private practice as a psychotherapist. She also finds great pleasure in studying design, from interior decorating to garden-scaping. Combining her knowledge gained from owning her own business for over 10 years, her creativity and love of good design, a passion to serve and her enjoyment as a mom, could not have come together more perfectly than as seen in Sorrisi Tooth Fairy pillows.
