Learn SEO

Step one; it’s time to hit the books or the web as it maybe. We’ve all heard people talking about SEO and how you need it for your website. But what is it? SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. According to Wikipedia.org, it is the process of improving the visibility of a website or blog in a search engine’s un-paid search results. And that’s exactly what you want as a blogger, for people to search on the likes of Google, Bing, or Yahoo and find your page. It’s one of the most important tools you can use to get your blog in the limelight.  A good resource for SEO information is seomoz.org.

Here are a few tips to get you started on the right SEO track:

  • Post as frequently as possible. The best is once a day but if that’s too much try posting at least once a week.
  • Post on the same day of the week and at the same time of day.
  • Each post should have at least 1 keyword and it should appear in the title, in the first paragraph and at least 3 more times in the post
  • Make sure your posts include an image with a caption if possible.

Think of Your Audience

Step two; make sure the information you’re thinking about writing will be helpful to your target audience. Blog topics should provide information, analysis, interviews when possible and viewpoints. Don’t forget about the headline. The better the headline the more likely it will be that your blog will be read. When you give your audience what they want and need, they will share your articles with others.

Make It Easy to Share

Step three; make your blog posts are easy for people to distribute and share with others by putting links to Twitter, Facebook, or Pinterest on your blog posts.  There are many options out there depending on what blogging platform you use and what audience you want to attract. Ask your friends to share your blog with others. Word of mouth is always a great way to get people to notice your blog.

Engage Your Audience

Step four; engage your audience, and ask them something that will entice your readers to comment, to think and to want to talk about the subject of your blog with others. At the end of every post, ask a question whenever possible. When people leave a comment try and respond to them quickly to keep the conversation going. If the comment is negative, don’t get upset. Thank them for sharing and don’t delete it. You want the audience to know that you are there to get all types of traffic.

Finally, remember nothing is guaranteed when getting traffic to your site but these four tips should get you noticed in the blogosphere, either as a new blogger or a more established blogger. What other tips do you have?
