Can you juggle all your fFacebook duties?

Last week we introduced two of the five social media marketing tips and tricks for improving your online presence and encouraging better fan engagement. We discussed the importance of scheduling and that consistency in a posting is essential. This week, we delve into the content, the timeliness of that content and the value that it will have with your fans and followers. Remember, these tips can be put into action by any business owner hoping to improve their efforts for maintaining a quality Facebook page.

They are:

Content: What’s more important than content? Very little. Without quality content, fan engagement is nonexistent and you will surely see your likes and shares decrease rapidly. When creating your Facebook updates, it is important to find fresh, interesting, relevant and entertaining content that your followers will identify with. You want it to be relevant to your industry, your fans and your brand. The content that you place on your Facebook page will be the deciding factor on whether or not your fans and followers share your posts with their own fans and followers.

For example, if you are a hardware company posting on your Facebook page about a wedding dress sale, chances are that your hardware store followers will no longer see the value in your content and will stop following or unlike your page.

Fan value: So you’ve created quality updates, where do you go from there? The answer is actually pretty simple. Before you post your content, be sure to take what your followers and your fans will gain from reading it into consideration. When creating Facebook content, not only should it be high-quality, it should have an aspect of education. Readers should gain something when they visit your Facebook page and follow the links you post.

For example, if you are the same hardware store and posting a do-it-yourself video highlighting the steps it would take to create simple summer furniture out of left over scrap wood would be a good fit. This video may not be directly related to sales at your hardware store, but it shows your fans and your followers that you are qualified in the field of hardware and care about bettering them and their interests.

Always take your fans and your followers into consideration and make sure that the content you are creating is not only quality and entertaining, but will have some value and educational aspect for your fans. This is especially valuable in social media marketing.

Timeliness of content: We’ve talked about scheduling (when to post and not to post content to your Facebook page), but the timeliness of content could also impact an increase in fan engagement. This idea intertwines both the ideas of content creation and social media scheduling and consistency. When creating your content and planning when to post, be cognizant of upcoming holidays and events that your posts could be centered around. These holidays or events will usually have some sort of influence on the lives of your followers. Involving them in your social media marketing efforts will give a sense of urgency to your content, encouraging click through’s, shares, likes and general fan engagement.
