Is blogging part of your business’ marketing strategy? If it isn’t, it should be. In the past we’ve talked about the importance of blogging for increasing your company’s SEO and establishing yourself as an expert, but the benefits don’t stop there. I recently came across a post on Social Media Examiner that shares research stating that when it comes to consumer influence, blogs outrank social media networks.

What does this mean? As the article explains, “The latest findings from Technorati’s 2013 Digital Influence Report show that ‘consumers are turning to blogs when looking to make a purchase.’ In fact, blogs rank favorably with consumers for trust, popularity and even influence.” Yes, social media is an important part of your marketing strategy, but according to this research blogging plays a very vital role, too.

Additional Statistics

Here are a few more interesting findings reported on Social Media Examiner:

  • When it comes to digital resources with influence (like as social media networks), blogs rank third (at 31%) behind retail sites (such as Amazon.com) and brand sites (which would be a business’ company site).
  • More than half of the consumers surveyed agree that when it comes to influence, smaller communities carry more weight than larger ones. The idea behind this is that smaller communities are able to build stronger relationships internally, so the members of the group trust the writer more than someone they don’t know on a much larger site.
  • When it comes to social media, Facebook is the preferred platform. How do you make sure your company’s Facebook marketing strategy is effective? “The key…is sharing content that generates interaction (likes and comments) and draws in more fans.”
  • At the same time, instead of focusing on just the number of comments your blog receives or how many likes you have on Facebook, top influencers use blog or website page views to measure their success.
