What can you learn from my proposal?

What can you learn from my proposal?

Last week, I wrote about my best friend’s engagement and how wedding planning can teach us about planning marketing and public relations campaigns. Little did I know that literally hours after posting it, I would be engaged myself! While I am over the moon excited I’m getting hitched to my own prince charming, I began to wonder how I could connect this exciting time in my own life to my career in public relations, social media and marketing.

Suddenly it hit me! When my fiancé popped the question, he had someone photograph and record a video of the proposal, both of which were uploaded to social media right after we called our loved ones. In less than two hours, the photos had received over 300 likes and had well over 200 comments, while the YouTube video had more than 500 views. This social media activity raised my Klout score almost instantaneously begging the question, “why did this activity garner more attention than past activities?”

In this blog post we identify three ways social media and marketing content campaigns can keep the interest of an audience while creating a buzz in the same way engagements and other life events do.

Three Ways to Keep an Audience’s Interest:

Tell your story: Hundreds of comments and questions were left pertaining to the proposal and our love story. Everyone likes to feel involved, and telling the whole story will keep your fans and followers loyal to your brand or business. Try carrying out a behind the scenes exclusive for your followers; they will love it and will feel as though they are being given special attention and care.

Don’t expect every event to spark huge interest: It is important to stay active on your social media accounts, but don’t expect every update to create a marketing phenomenon. While my engagement photo may have received hundreds of likes and comments, my prior update about riding a bus didn’t spark much attention. Be sure to keep all your content interesting and strategic while also making an effort to include bigger moments and announcements in your public relations and marketing plan.

Show love to all that show love to you: This concept is especially true when it comes to managing your own public relations efforts. Following the proposal, we were overwhelmed by comments and messages from friends and family pledging their support and expressing their love for us as a couple, which we responded to. Be sure to engage with each of your fans, regardless of how many there may be. Showing attention to each follower will encourage brand loyalty and longevity.

Next time you find yourself looking for ways to boost the liveliness of your marketing efforts, remember my proposal, your story and the love; show it, share it and surely you will spark interest. If you or anyone else you know is looking for their own quality marketing campaign, we urge you to give us a call, today!
