Fun Fact #1: The amount of information on the Internet is expected to increase by 600 percent by 2020. That’s a lot of content.

Fun Fact #2: Americans spend roughly 10 hours a day consuming that content.

Question: How are your content management skills?

There is no point in producing content if it isn’t SEO optimized and driven by a succinct and clear purpose. Content without a strategy is just stuff, and there is already a lot of stuff flooding people’s brains. So how do you make your content stand out among the rest?

How do you stand out?

How do you stand out?

1. The Shock Factor

Content management is all about keeping up with current trends, trying new things and staying relevant. The best way to do this is to find an unsaturated niche, as Mark Schaefer calls it, and create quality content that leads Google users right to you. Like Schaefer says, “You don’t have to be the best content creator, just the first and most overwhelming one.” Go for the shock factor and become a go-to source for explorers in your niche.

2. Partner Up!

Being a content creator is a lot of work and, while fun, can be exhausting. Partner up with other brands to increase your pipeline through various avenues such as:

–         Newsjacking: Hop on the breaking news bandwagon and align your brand message to ride the traditional marketing draft.

–         Sponsored content: There are bloggers everywhere looking for some SEO points and they’re willing to work with you to get them. Partner up with these brands and bloggers for news placements and editorial space.

–         Brandscaping: Want to reach a broader audience? Join forces with a local business and create a deal. Example: Buy a haircut and receive 10% of your next service at [enter your company here].

3. Be a Bite-Sized Content Creator

Bring in social media platforms such as Pinterest, Vine and Instagram into your brand and deliver bite-sized fun content that gets people sharing.

4. Create a Human Connection

Social media platforms have surged with our self-identities and all of a sudden we’re watching shows like “Orange is the New Black,” just to be invited to a friend’s birthday party next week. Pay attention to the things your customers like, enjoy doing or causes they care about, and chime in! Be a person who has likes and interests as well; people want to engage with a fellow human being.

5. Create Content Where There Isn’t Any

Has your competitor ruled the field with blog posts? Take note of it in your content management strategy and aim for videos and photos instead. Start a podcast, a video diary or a photo contest. Not only are these all great SEO boosters, they’re different, and unique is exactly what your customers are looking for.

Content management is a daily task that requires time, research and heart. Don’t do it just for the SEO points; do it to make a difference in your field. What are some of your favorite ways to make your content stand out?
