First off, let me say that I am not a craft person by nature. I have never found myself elbow deep in Pinterest  projects and could never make a living off Etsy creations. However, I recently was given an old dresser by a family member and thought maybe something fun could be done with it; then chalkboard paint came into my mind and I thought, “why not?” Having gone head first into my project with no instructions but the ones on the spray paint can, I have discovered that my craft project overlaps into the beginning of a media campaign.

How could a DIY project help your campaign?

3 Ways to Think about Media Campaigns While Working on Home Projects

  1. Be Organized

When the initial thought of my project came into my head, thoughts of everything I could do spun around my brain. It was an exciting time trying to brainstorm and creatively think of everything I could do. Like in a media

campaign, it is beneficial to plan everything out that you want and think of the overall picture. How do you want your campaign to go? Rushing into a project isn’t helpful for the process and likely won’t get you the desired end result.

  1. What tools do you need?

My project has a pretty small and concise list of what I needed: chalk paint, my dresser, chalk and maybe some old clothes I don’t care about if paint gets on them. My list was easy, but what about yours? Do you need a social media surge, print media, radio or television? How big do you want your campaign to be? How small? When looking at your options, are you interested in an all-inclusive package or would you prefer to pick and choose certain items that fit your needs?

  1. Following Up

I wouldn’t consider myself an impatient person, but I checked on my dresser almost every 20 minutes hoping I could do the next coat just to rush the end result. I was expecting instant dry paint just so I could move on to the next round and then start writing on my new dresser. When your campaign is just getting started it is important to look at what is getting sent out and what the feedback is. If your campaign is freshly out there, don’t panic when instant glory isn’t achieved. Sometimes it does take a while to see how your project is doing. Sit back and watch your efforts come together.

Whether you’re working on a small home project or creating an extensive media campaign, it is important to keep a level head and push through. All your hard efforts will come together and the rewards will be in the results.
