As part of my 2014 New Year’s resolutions, I decided to make practicing yoga a part of my daily routine and I have kept up with it! I love being able to see personal improvement over time and it has radically improved my lifestyle. Like daily yoga, planning a public relations campaign requires steady growth over time and a tailored approach. Here are the first 3 PR lessons from yoga.

3 PR Lessons from Yoga

  1. Practice, Practice, Practice!

Practice makes perfect. Great PR professionals aren’t created overnight. Practicing smart public relations takes years of experience, the ability to learn from your mistakes and lots of trial and error. Perfecting a new work skill is the same as learning a new yoga pose. At first it may seem foreign and unfamiliar, but over time you ease into it and wonder why you ever struggled in the first place.

  1. Don’t Force It

When practicing yoga, your level of flexibility and fitness may not allow you to do the pose properly, but forcing it to happen can be really dangerous. Yoga is about treating your body with respect and paying attention to how you feel presently. Likewise with public relations, pay attention to your audience to see if they are responsive to your content. Don’t assume that you need to create GIFs or memes just because everyone else is, even when it doesn’t align with your brand.

  1. Know Your Style

The business of yoga has blossomed in America with independent studios popping up in every city. Different styles such as hot yoga and bikram yoga show that yogis everywhere all have a favorite place to practice. Different teachers have varying styles and approaches to their classes, so take a lesson and study up on your audience. You should revise and tailor your content accordingly.
