It’s hard to deny the fact that smartphones have changed the world we live in. Today there are billions of smartphones worldwide with that number expected to steadily rise in the next several years. The fast adoption rate isn’t just because these devices are getting cheaper; it’s also because they are inherently personal. You can listen to your favorite songs, monitor your health, play games and stay in contact with friends all on a single, portable device. And of course, there are a whole slew of other useful features such as GPS, cameras, accelerometers and Internet access.

If you’re just now venturing into the world of mobile, it might seem intimidating as you will need to reconsider your entire marketing plan from the ground up. In order to make the most of your redesign keep these tips in mind:

  • Mobile devices have smaller screens and are touch-based. This means your navigational buttons and the overall text on your site need to be larger.
  • Mobile users are purpose driven. They want relevant information in quick, easy-to-digest bites. As well, they expect your site to load in less than 3 seconds. Otherwise, 80 percent of visitors will never return to your site. The main culprits for a slow loading site are large images and videos.
  • The majority of search traffic on mobile has local intent. If you have a physical location, list it on the homepage of your site along with your phone number. Make it easy for visitors to contact you with a simple tap.

Mobile is not just a passing fad. In fact, both brands and marketers expect it to play an even larger part in the future. The infographic below offers more information on the importance of mobile and should give you the incentive you need to make the change.
