  1. Don’t Multitask

Although we may think we’re capable of multitasking and taking on lots of projects at once, it’s been proven our brains can’t. When performing more than one job, the mind switches quickly between tasks which slows down cognition and allows us to get easily distracted. An important step to effective communication is to slow down and focus on one thing at a time: your customer, your client or your audience.

  1. Be Consistent

Your emails, calls, tweets and marketing material should all have a consistent tone and voice. Interacting with customers via social media may be limited to 140 characters or less so it’s important to practice saying as much as you can in as little space as possible.

  1. Ask For Feedback

Just like a performance review at a job, remember to evaluate the success of a marketing campaign or client communications. Set up a client satisfaction survey or take a poll on social media to ask your followers what they like and what could use improvement. Your fans are your best network for honest advice.

Even though emails can be a great way to spell out information, sometimes the quickest way to resolve an issue may be the old-fashioned way: on the phone or in person.

Focusing your attention, aiming for consistency and asking for feedback are all great ways to communicate effectively.
