Watching Claire Dunphy navigate family problems through her computer, I found three lessons that can be used in social media.

Instead of being stuck on one method of communication, Mrs. Dunphy was a mom on a mission and used FaceTime, Facebook and messaging to solve a problem on her laptop. Like Claire, use everything that your social media profiles have to offer. Brand awareness can be increased through utilizing event pages and contests to reach members in the community.

  1. Be Relatable

One of the reasons the “Connection Lost” episode has become so popular is because of its relatability. How many times have you been physically removed from a situation but still had to participate through technology? This scenario is universal and one that we’ve all been through. When looking for content to post on social media, try to find topics that everyone can comment on. This will increase engagement and user interaction.

  1. Collaborate

Like most “modern families,” if you ask one person something, everyone has something to add. With the help of her entire family the mystery of whether her daughter was married or pregnant was solved in an easy 30 minutes. If your social media profiles are becoming predictable, try collaborating with different people in your company for ideas or interesting news items. It can be fun to find out what other people are into and explore those topics.

Every now and then we can learn social media lessons from TV shows and incorporate them into our lives. Utilize all your options, be relatable and collaborate to make the most out of these lessons from “Modern Family.”
