Google+ is a unique and newer network with a different audience than bigger channels like Facebook. Despite its tentative and rocky start, Google+ is paving the way as a must-have network for companies looking to reach a new and tech-savvy audience.

What is Google+?

Google+ launched in 2011 and provides users with a hub for social networking, sharing pictures, video messaging and more. It’s unique from other networks because it provides circles users can use to group contacts by relationship for easy sharing and more control over privacy. Google+ is a great platform for companies because their audience can easily categorize updates and separate personal interactions from business. Here are some statistics about Google+ users.

Social Media Marketing Statistics: Who’s on Google+?

  • Google+ was originally endorsed by a large population of younger, tech-savvy males, who currently dominate the network.
  • 45-54 year-olds were the fastest growing segment of Google+.
  • Six percent of Google+ users are seeking news-related content on the site (that’s more than on LinkedIn!)
  • 540 million users are active on Google+ each month.
  • Google+ grows 33 percent each year.
  • Google+ attracts technology-minded users and “Early Adopters.”

Data on Google+’s reach for social media marketing campaigns is still being collected, but initial reports show posting on Google+ is advantageous because it can benefit search engine ranking. It’s also important to note for maximum user engagement, the ideal length of an update is 60 characters, which is less than half the 140 character-maximum on Twitter; remember to keep it short and sweet!
