This post shares social media marketing tips from picking fresh produce. Every Wednesday, Allan Family Farm harvests fresh vegetables to sell at the Pullman Farmer’s Market. My husband is their Production Manager and this week I got the opportunity to help out on Harvest Day! In my counting, chopping and bagging of fresh lettuce, radishes, beets and more, I learned a few things about farm living I didn’t know before, and a couple of helpful tips for public relations campaigns! Here are three social media marketing tips from harvest day.

3 Social Media Marketing Tips from Harvest Day

  1. Preparation is Essential

While I’m the type to run right in and begin harvesting right away, my husband knew preparation was essential before we began. Since the hot sun was beating down, even in the morning, we had to plan which veggies would be pulled first and which ones needed to wait until last to prevent wilting. We packed up all the supplies, counted and organized them before we picked anything, and the preparation paid off. Be sure to plan all aspects of public relations campaigns before you begin.

  1. Embrace the Situation

At first, I was surprised how wet and dirty I got from picking veggies, but after a while I decided to embrace the situation, get some dirt between my fingers and finish the project at hand. Committing until the end of a public relations campaign is important. Starting off strong and finishing strong will help you make the maximum impact.

  1. Treat Each Person Equally

Since we were harvesting to fill CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) boxes, I kept imagining the people who were going to enjoy the produce I was harvesting. Since we had a limited amount of plants to pick, we had to divide the food equally among all the boxes. It reminded me of social media marketing, where you should respond and engage with each fan individually, and treat them all the same.

Creating a game plan before beginning, committing to the task from finish to start and interacting with each person equally are all great tips I learned from harvest day.
