Follow these 7 marketing tips to get the word out about your business.

For small business owners, getting your name out there can be a challenging prospect when you consider the multi-billion dollar industry of marketing.

Don’t be discouraged.

There are many ways to market yourself, and these seven low-cost options offer some great guidance without breaking the bank.

#1 Fill the need, find your niche

Consider your business and its unique value. How do you serve a market need? Do you offer a specific niche?

Many businesses start out with great ideas, but find themselves lost in the sea of the mainstream crowd.

What can set you apart from the rest? If you feel that your idea is barking up the same tree as many others in the industry, then think outside the box. How could you revamp the design? What new elements can you offer?

Where is the market need? What is your niche?

#2 Get clear about your mission

When you have a clear focus on what your mission is, then the world will have a clearer sense of who you are and what you can offer it.

Write out your mission statement and express your vision (written, verbally, to yourself, to others). Consider the results you wish to create and make a plan.

When you commit to a direction, and become clear about who you are and how you fit in your industry, you will find that creating marketing plans and targets will flow with more ease and inspiration.

#3 Get social the smart way

Everyone is utilizing social media nowadays – it’s not just about tagging your friends in hilarious cat memes any more. The social media boom of recent years has seen unprecedented growth in the possibilities for individuals and businesses to get their name out there and connect.

But do you really need to be on every platform?

Some social media strategies propose that less is more. Prioritize your tools and focus on just a few main platforms. For those who can’t seem to operate without a budget planner, choose just one or two main platforms to direct your energy toward, to save time, energy and money.

#4 Get out and about

Be active! Attend industry events to further your knowledge, learn tricks of the trade and network with new contacts, suppliers and clients.

This can be especially useful if you are just starting out. There is a host of opportunities for almost any industry – seminars, trade fairs, conventions. Most are accessible within a low budget and great for getting your name out there and acquiring new skills.

#5 Inbox inspiration

Set up email list newsletters with an email marketing company. Ensuring that you maintain a daily online presence and communication will do wonders for your clientele in reminding them that you are there, and that you care!

#6 Get personal

Whether you offer a product or service, have a physical store or an online presence, find ways to be relatable and personal. Creating a balance between ‘industry professional’ whilst offering personal connection can do wonders for gaining your client’s trust and respect.

Use social media to promote your customer service. This is a platform where your customer will want to interact with you, so be ready and willing to interact with them.

#7 Think success

Small businesses can thrive when they are clear about their mission and think smart in their marketing… and don’t forget to believe in the success that awaits you!
