There’s been some big news in the social media world recently: Twitter is rolling out four new changes that will give you more flexibility with each update!

Upcoming Twitter Changes

Keep an eye out for these changes coming to Twitter soon!

As Twitter announced on its blog, “In the coming months we’ll make changes to simplify Tweets including what counts toward your 140 characters.”

Here are the details:

  1. When you reply to another user, the @username will no longer be included in the 140-character count, giving you a few more characters in your Twitter update.
  2. When you add an attachment (such as a photo, meme, GIF, quote tweet, poll or video), the media file will no longer use up your valuable characters, so you’ll have more room to include words in your Tweet.
  3. Twitter will give users the ability to retweet or quote tweet themselves, which will allow you to add context from a previous update you posted.
  4. Updates that begin with an @username will now reach all your followers. Currently, if you start your Tweet with @username, Twitter thinks you’re replying to another user and doesn’t post the update on your followers’ timelines, so many users that want to start a Tweet by referencing another user’s name, but still want all their followers to see it, begin the update with “.@username.” Confused? Don’t worry – soon this convention will become a thing of the past!

Twitter hasn’t announced exactly when these changes will take affect, but we’re excited they’re coming!
