When your friends describe you, does the word “nice” ever make an appearance? I remember when I used to go to camp as a young girl, we used to do an activity where we’d go around the cabin and share things we liked about each person, most likely intended to help us see a positive image of self. Regardless of why we did this activity, one of the frequently used adjectives was the word “nice.” At the time I remember thinking, “Well everyone’s nice, so how does that set me apart?” In reality, you’d be surprised at how much being nice can set you apart. Three GirlsWomen are key to the growth of small business in America. The Center for Women’s Business Research has compiled the following data on the impact of women in business. Here’s the overall picture based on 2009 data:

  • 10.1 million firms are owned by women (50% or more), employing more than 13 million people, and generating $1.9 trillion in sales as of 2008.
  • Three quarters of all women-owned businesses are majority owned by women (51% or more), for a total of 7.2 million firms, employing 7.3 million people, and generating $1.1 trillion in sales.
  • Women-owned firms (50% or more) account for 40% of all privately held firms. Read more

Los Angeles Mayor Endorses Plush Puffs

This past week the Los Angeles Mayor endorsed Plush Puffs Gourmet Marshmallows. Last Saturday nearly 60 mobile food vendors gathered at the Rose Bowl to give thousands of locals a taste of Southern California’s food truck scene.
