If you’re a fan of TV, you are probably just as excited as me that we are in fall premiere season with our favorite shows coming back with new episodes. I have many shows that I’m personally excited about coming back, but the one that takes the cake is the reboot of one of my all-time favorite shows, Will & Grace.

How Viral Video Caused a Comeback

If you’re not familiar with the show, it originally aired in the mid-1990s, and is about a gay man and his best girlfriend living together in New York with their crazy, but loveable sidekicks, Jack and Karen. The series finale aired in 2006, and for most of us fans, it was an emotional, but tastefully done send-off for the show.

All of us, including the cast and the show’s creators thought that was it, until they reunited in the summer of 2016 to film a 10-minute clip to encourage people to vote for the 2016 election, but as a mini-episode of the show. The show’s creators uploaded it hours before one of the final debates and it immediately went viral. To this day, the video has more than 7 million views! If you haven’t seen it, you can check it out here.

What does this have to do with your business’ marketing? Read on to learn how to simplify your strategy from the hit show, Will & Grace!

Variety is Key: How to Make Vlogs like Lucie Fink

One of my favorite content creators and vlogs to follow on social media is Lucie Fink. Lucie currently works at Refinery29 (another favorite of mine) and according to her website: “At Refinery29, she created and hosts the hit YouTube series “Try Living with Lucie” where she takes on social experiments for 5 days at a time, documenting her experience vlog-style. In addition to Try Living with Lucie, she has created a plethora of other video formats for Refinery29 that she hosts and produces – “Lucie for Hire” (where she tries doing another person’s job for the day), original pieces for Snapchat Discover, Facebook LIVE and more.”

Is your business ready to start a vlog?

Now to be honest, I don’t remember how I came across her videos on YouTube, but after the first one I was hooked.

After becoming an avid YouTube watcher and social media follower, her approach to vlogs and social media got me thinking about how businesses can follow suit. Keep reading to learn more about the importance of vlogs, videos and more.

The Importance of Vlogs and Videos

What are vlogs you may ask? Well, vlogging is pretty simple: it’s the combination of videos and blogging. This is a visual way to share information you would otherwise type out in an article. While there is nothing wrong with blogging the traditional way, here are some key reasons your business should start vlogging.

  1. People Love Videos

People can’t get enough of videos: they watch 6 billion hours of video on YouTube every month and 92 percent of mobile viewers share videos with others.

Vlogging is a great way to get a lot of information out there quickly, because they don’t have to require a full production studio (though proper equipment can make you appear professional) it’s just you, or someone else in your business, talking to a camera.

Another reason that vlogging is important to a small business is because it’s effortless for your viewers. People want information quickly and watching short video is always going to be quicker than reading a block of text. Continue reading

How can you improve your social media strategy using video? Find out in this blog post!

When most of us think of social media, we see it as another way to be social and interact with people – especially with those we can’t interact with in real life. It also allows us to interact with companies that create products or provide services we use as well as our favorite celebrities – such as actors, musicians and athletes. With the popularity of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat, connecting with our favorite celebrities is easier than ever.

Along with the rising popularity of social media comes marketing. For celebrities, entrepreneurs and businesses alike, this is an easy, affordable and effective way to market yourself, your brand and your company. While some of the old-school methods of advertising are still in use, such as radio and print ads, they are not nearly as efficient as social media. While general online marketing is still effective, social media marketing takes it to another level with the ability to target certain markets and demographics.  Continue reading
