Have your social media sites plateaued when it comes to likes, fans and followers? Growing a social media following may sound hard to attain, but it can be a fun process if you know what to do. Here are some tips that help entrepreneurs and business owners increase the number of followers and fans on their social media sites.
1. Go to your audience. It’s much easier to gain followers by going to them versus trying to have them find you. Avoid wasted time by trying to draw them to you; instead build a presence and make yourself visible on the social media sites that your target audience is already using. Also, promote your social presence on your website, in your e-newsletters and in any other marketing materials that you have. The more visibility, the easier it will be for people to find you.
2. Pick and choose. Have you heard the expression, “Jack-of-all-trades, master of none?” Your business does not have to be on every social media site known to mankind. Pick and choose which ones work best for your industry and the demographics you’re trying to reach and focus your efforts on those.
3. Invite conversation. Making your tweets and Facebook posts interactive will help when growing your followers on social media sites. Social media is a two way street, and just as you can tell them about your industry or product and offer valuable content, ask for their opinion or point of view as a way to spark a conversation.
4. Think branding. Keep your social media handles as similar as possible throughout all your networking and social media sites. It is also important to stay away from hard to read characters and any convoluted symbols. If your handles look like too much trouble to type or to remember, it could turn people away.
5. Expand into signatures. How many emails do you send out a day to current and potential clients? Including your social media links in your email signature increases awareness to those with whom you are already in contact and, most importantly, to those who may be connecting with your business for the first time.
