3 PR Lessons from New Year’s Resolutions

  1. Be Realistic

Although you may want to get your business featured in large publications immediately, it’s important to remember to stay realistic. Aiming too high can lead to disappointment, and moving too fast may sabotage your image if done improperly. Set some realistic and measurable goals for yourself that you’ll be able to accomplish.

  1. Keep on Schedule

New Year’s resolutions are hard to keep without sticking to a schedule. It’s also important in public relations to be consistent. Posting content on a predictable schedule raises your brand awareness and the likelihood a search engine will pick up your content. If you can’t be around to post your content manually, use websites like SproutSocial or Hootsuite to schedule your posts. Even Facebook now allows business users to schedule posts for future times.

  1. Be Honest

It’s important to be honest with yourself and others when coming up with your New Year’s resolutions. Are you committing to having coffee every day with your best friend before work? Is this something you, and they, are able to commit to on a regular basis? Honesty is also a good PR lesson because it’s important to be truthful with your audience. Don’t lie to your customers and don’t post content that may not align with your brand.

There are many PR lessons we can learn from New Year’s resolutions. What do you resolve to do differently for your public relations in 2015?
