Take a quick break from work

As a small business itself, Three Girls knows that small business owners feel like they need to give 110% of themselves to their company, and it can be hard to turn off work and take a break for a while. Here are three tips Erika likes to give other owners about how to take a break without your company suffering:

  1. Computer/Facebook Games – It might sound silly, but because so many small business owners spend their life on the computer, sometimes you need to take a break without being able to get up from your chair and move away from your desk. Being able to click a button and go over to a game you enjoy can give you a really nice mental health break without needing to leave your desk. Just make sure you set an alarm so you don’t lose track of time!
  2. Start the Day With a Fun Read – In the morning when her alarm goes off, instead of getting out of bed right away and running to turn the coffee machine on, Erika rolls over and reads something for 15-20 minutes. It can be a newspaper, magazine, novel…anything that’s not on the computer. Staying in bed and spending some time with enjoyable reading is a great way to begin the day without jumping into a stressful situation first thing. Even if you have to get up 15 -20 minutes earlier, it’s a really nice respite to enjoy the day with an enjoyable read.
  3. Take half a day off – Just take half a day off and do something you really enjoy. Go get a massage, go golfing, go fishing, lay in bed and watch soap operas…whatever you like to do. It’s okay at least once a month to take half a day for yourself. We encourage you to take a whole day, but sometimes that can feel impossible as a small business owner, which is why taking half a day instead of a full day seems less overwhelming.
