If you’re managing your company’s public relations, it’s important to have strong writing skills while still being entertaining. From writing pitches to social media updates, the last thing you need is writer’s block. So what do you do when it happens? Here are some tips that work great to get over the mental hump and get you back to business in no time.
Reading. Not feeling the writing flow? Sometimes taking a few minutes to read before you sit down to write can go a long way. It doesn’t have to be directly related to the topic you are trying to write about, but a good read will inspire anyone to pick up the pen and get started on their very own masterpiece.
Free writing. Have you ever tried writing without any limitations? If you are really stuck, follow this simple advice and just type. Don’t think about grammar, spelling or even making a complete sentence. If an idea strikes just write it down, you can always go back to rearrange and finalize your thoughts.
Start in the middle. Forget about the beginning and end; a good way to get over writer’s block is to start your piece at the middle. This technique works great if you already have a topic in mind and going straight to content can make it easier to fill in the blanks of the introduction and conclusion later on.
Write about something else. Writer’s block usually happens when you have to write about one specific topic. Work your way around it by writing about a completely different topic.
Take a break. If nothing else works, try taking a small break. It may feel a little counter productive to leave something you are trying to get done, but sitting at a desk with no ideas flowing will only make the situation worse.
There is nothing worse than staring at a computer screen for hours without getting any results. These are just a few of the most used tips to get rid of writer’s block. How do you clear your mind of any obstacles?
