Follow this guide to boost a Facebook post.

Are you trying to make your business more visible on Facebook? You may want to consider investing in a Facebook boosted post. Unlike traditional Facebook ads that show up in the side bars of the network’s page, boosted posts appear directly in users’ newsfeeds, giving them much more visibility.

Why a Facebook Boosted Post?

There are a lot of benefits to advertising on Facebook. In addition to being able to set your own budget, it’s very easy to run an ad and, based on the results we’ve seen for Three Girls and our clients, effective.

How to Boost a Facebook Post

Here’s how to get started:

1. Go to your business’ Facebook page and write an engaging update promoting your company. Depending on the ad settings you choose, the boosted post will likely appear to users that don’t know anything about your business, so keep that in mind as you write the copy. For example, here’s a recent update we wrote to use as a Facebook boosted post:

2. Once you’ve written your update, click “Publish” and then select the blue “Boost Post” button to the bottom right of the update.

3. Select the audience you want to target:

  • People who like your page
  • People who like your page and their friends
  • People you choose through targeting

Remember the goal of the boosted post. Are you trying to increase your business’ visibility? If so, make sure you don’t limit the ad to just people who like your page.

4. Select the location you want to target. When you boost a Facebook post, you have the ability to target as many countries, states or cities as you’d like. For example, because we work with clients nationwide, we usually target the United States. If you want to focus on your specific region, however, it might be better to select the cities in your locale.

5. Select your budget and duration. Facebook allows you to spend however much or little you’d like to on boosted posts. Type in the total budget you’d like to spend, and then select how many days (between 1-7) that you’d like the ad to run. Facebook will also estimate how many people will see your ad so you can get a feel for how much bang you’ll get for your buck, too.

6. Pay and boost! You can pay for your Facebook boosted post with a credit card, PayPal or Facebook ad coupon. Just click on the link in the payment section and fill out the necessary information. Then, once you’ve entered the necessary information, your boosted post is ready, so click on the blue “Boost” button.

Facebook will need to review your boosted post, so don’t expect to see results immediately. However, once it’s approved (usually within a few hours), you’ll receive an email confirmation and be able to see all sorts of interesting analytics below your post, including:

  • How many people have been reached
  • How many likes the post has received
  • How many times it was shared
  • How many clicks it received (on both the photo and the link)
  • And much more!

Whenever you boost a post, make sure you take the time to review the analytics so you can start to notice trends and figure out which types of updates perform better as a Facebook boosted post.
