“Don’t make it personal.”

People are so afraid to be upfront and personal these days. I cannot stand browsing a company page that only includes serious information about who they are and what they do. I already know this. What I want to know are the personal details; the people behind the company. Last week I gave you some ideas for creative blog posts; let’s apply the same idea to Twitter. Below are six ways you can be a little more playful and personal in 140 characters or less.

Don't be afraid to get personal with your audience.

Don’t be afraid to get personal with your audience.

1. Appreciation

Someone just retweeted something that you posted on Twitter. Say thank you! Acknowledging the fact that someone thought your tweet was good enough to share is important, so make sure that they know it!

2. Inspiration & Fun Facts

I love learning new things about absolutely pointless things. To give a more personal vibe on Twitter, post inspiration that you find motivating and fun facts that will simply be appreciated. It doesn’t have to be business all the time.

3. Emotional Experiences

Did someone at your company just suffer a loss? Did you receive an unexpected and wonderful present? People want to know that you’re real and human; don’t be afraid to be one. Just keep it professional.

4. Interviews

I love personal interviews with staff or important people in a specific field. Give your followers an inside look into your company by posting tweets about podcast or Q&A interviews.

5. Article/Video Recommendations

People follow a certain company because they see them as a trusted source for more reasons than their service or product. Recommend your favorite articles or videos and share the love; this is a great way to get your company in other Twitter feeds and give yourself depth.

6. Causes

According to Ragan.com, forty-seven percent of Americans learn about causes via social media and online channels. Be a company that expresses a personal attachment to a cause on Twitter and engage your followers towards something greater.

These are just a few ideas to spice up your company Twitter page. What else have you tried?
