Recently, a fan of the Dunkin’ Donuts brand got a tattoo of the company’s logo, so they
decided to figure out a way to celebrate them. Jessica Gioglio, a social media manager for Dunkin’ Donuts, shared recently at SocialMedia.org’s Blowwell conference that Dunkin’ Donuts new fan-centric approach of celebrating its fans has helped them earn customer loyalty, create fun content and keep the conversation going about their brand.
Here are 3 lessons she shared in her presentation:
1. Shock your fans… and delight them!
If a fan shares some love about Dunkin’ Donuts, the company responds by sending a little gift with a handwritten note. Your company can use this small gesture, and it will go a long way. It continues the conversation of your brand and will likely spark even more brand loyalty. In fact, Three Girls Media uses this tactic, sending handwritten thank you notes and branded Post-It notes to every journalist who writes about one of our clients. The gesture is so meaningful that we often receive thank you notes in response to the thank yous we send!
2. Utilize visuals
Pictures and videos are extremely popular on social media sites. Dunkin’ Donuts encourages its followers to interact by creating videos on Vine or photo competitions on Instagram. Make it a point to post more visuals that will grab the attention of your followers and encourage engagement.
3. Make your contests fun
If you are going to run a contest, you definitely should make it fun! Simply asking your fans to like a post isn’t really interacting with them to the fullest extent possible and won’t draw them in. Higher-level contests, like asking fans to create a video or share a picture may have fewer entries, but will create more interesting content and provoke more conversation about your brand.
