As much I wish it were true, creating an awesome website will not automatically put your company at the top of the Google search where thousands will flock to check out your new content. While it’s incredibly important for a website to be user friendly, polished, modern and packed with great content, a website without a social media strategy will ultimately look pretty for no one to see.

Is your website socialized?

Is your website socialized?

A couple weeks ago I wrote a post about developing your SEO strategy for a new website. This week, I’m going to take a closer look at the specific things you can do to develop an awesome social media strategy and get your website on your customers’ screens.

4 Ways to Build a Social Media Strategy for Your Website

1. Know the differences in social media platforms.

Proclaiming your website on all social media platforms isn’t going to get you any brownie points, nor will it save you any time. Take the time to learn the advantages of each social media platform as well as know which channel your audience is most likely to visit for business information. If you have general news about the company, post it on Facebook. Want to connect with other professionals? Hop on LinkedIn and connect with other colleagues. If you want to show off your product through photos or videos, promote your content on Pinterest, Instagram and YouTube.

2. Blog, blog, blog.

Blogging is an amazing tool that too many businesses don’t take advantage of. Try thinking of it this way if you’re still against it: What incentivizes your customers to come back to the site? By creating a blog, you are creating new and unique content every week that can help solve problems, showcase resources and/or give behind-the-scenes look at how your company works. If you’re giving them something they can use then you are also giving them something to share on social media.

3. Add social media icons.

If you want to have a strong social media strategy then you have to give readers a way to instantly share your content across social media platforms. On your blog page be sure to include these social media icons; it’s an amazing way to get free advertising.

4. Comment!

Nobody likes a robot, so don’t act like one. Encourage conversations both on your website and on others like yours to boost engagement and website traffic. Example of this would be to comment on another businesses website that sells products or services similar to yours and be part of that community. List your website after your comment and encourage people to ask questions. Also, always have a call to action at the end of every blog post.
