I hate to break it to you, but as you’re spitting out content for your readers, they’re probably not reading it. Why?

Does your audience care about your content?

They don’t care.

While that sounds harsh, it could be the main reason you are not seeing any real engagement numbers popping up.

While content creation now is as easy as picking up your phone and typing 140-character nonsense, simple text with no ambition isn’t going to stand out among the rest of the content your audience is soaking in every day.

The only way to fix this content-spewing is to understand the main reasons your audience is simply scanning over your message instead of engaging with your content.

5 Reasons People Don’t Care About Your Content

1. Your content isn’t written for your target audience.

If your target audience is Millennials and you’re writing about retirement plans, luxury cars and expensive vacations, you need to fire your content creation specialist. Understand who your target audience is and write content specifically for them.

2. The right people don’t care.

Do you want your content to spread? Write a message that will resonate with the right people: people who carry influence and can get the word out there.

3. There is better content elsewhere.

Do you know what your competitors are creating? Is it better than yours? Is there a niche that hasn’t been filled yet? If your content isn’t standing out among the many images and videos on social media channels, you might as well cease all content creation.

4. You’re too SEO focused.

In case you weren’t aware, content isn’t found by search engines… it’s found by people. Instead of focusing on SEO for machines, focus on SEO for people: What are they searching for, and how can you fulfill their needs.

5. You write too much.

Social media channels are not newspapers, novels or short stories. You’ve got about two seconds to grab someone’s attention. Get to the point.

Content creation isn’t something to take lightly simply to make an appearance online. What other obstacles can you think of that could hinder people from engaging with your content?
