“Who’s the baddest witch in town?”

If you haven’t been paying attention to trending topics on social media, AHS: Coven was released on Netflix for streaming video. This third season of the anthology series follows Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies’ search for a new Supreme, one witch who will lead the coven. Having watched the show during its original run on TV, I was excited to re-watch the season. During my second (and probably not last) viewing of Coven, I found 3 lessons in social media management.

3 Social Media Management lessons from Coven

  1. Complete the 7 Wonders

In order for one girl to go from average witch to Supreme, she must complete the 7 Wonders. The 7 Wonders are a series of tests that challenge the powers of students to find who strongest witch alive is. Just like witches need to be able to complete 7 different tasks, your social media campaign should encompass at least a few social networks. It is not enough to be proficient in just telekinesis or just Facebook. Mastering multiple platforms will show strength in a social media campaign and business. When social media profiles are strong it shows strength in the company.

  1. Learn from the Past

As part of the academy’s curriculum, learning the history of their ancestors is important to the coven. The newly enrolled girls learn that witches are a dying breed and find out that they must work together to overcome the same obstacles (The Axeman Cometh) as the witches before them. Just as the girls looked to the past to find solutions, reviewing past social media campaigns can assist in present day success. If campaigns have similar goals and objectives, review the previous work and bring the successful elements to the current work.

  1. Find Your Tribe

Hippie witch, Misty Day, may have the power of resurgence, but she is on an eternal quest to find her tribe. She is looking to find a community that allows her to be her full self. Finding and keeping the right audience and followers for your brand will complete your company’s social media efforts. Without fans and consumers, what is your business? Use social media to interact with your audience and keep note of likes and dislikes to retain fans. Engaged users are a fundamental aspect to successful social media campaigns.
