One movie that can teach you lessons about life, as well as social media is “Gone Girl.” This movie has quickly become one of my all-time favorites and one that I love to watch over and over again. After retreating from a 106 degree Saturday afternoon, here are three lessons in social media I thought about while watching the film.
Social Media Lessons from “Gone Girl”
- Create a Plan
Some may call it extreme, but Amy Dunne created an elaborate and well-detailed plan to frame her husband for murder. Such an intricate plot could only be done so by thinking of every possible aspect that needed to be covered. For a social media campaign, creating an editorial calendar is a great way to plan and schedule everything that you need to do. From daily content to special events, a calendar will help you remember what needs to be done.
- Use Your Resources
For Nick Dunne, the media was not kind to him. Cable news programs decided he was at fault and the public followed that opinion. However, by going on TV and giving an in-depth interview he was able to charm audiences and change the perception people had of him. Use what you have to reach your audience and spread the word about your amazing company, and write blog posts and social media to build a relationship with your customers.
- Create an Image
One of Amy’s biggest talents was her ability to create an image for herself that was irresistible. Whether it was being a “cool girl” or a media darling, she could craft a version of herself like no body’s business. Like Amy, you can create an image for your company on social media. Is your company more informative or funny? Trendy or factual? Use memes, infographics and videos to help design a page that reflects the personality of your business.
