What social media marketing lessons did you learn from the Emmy’s?

Last Sunday, the 67th annual Emmy Awards took place in Los Angeles to big stars and laughs. As an avid awards show viewer, I look forward to seeing which of my favorite television stars walk away with the big award (it’s about time Jon Hamm won for Mad Men). While watching the show and following social media afterwards, I couldn’t help but notice these three similarities from the show and social media marketing.

Social Media Marketing: 3 Lessons from the Emmy’s

  1. Create Sharable Content

In the big opening number, host Andy Samberg sang a song about having not watched the biggest shows of the past season (Empire and Game of Thrones to name a couple) and needing to seclude himself in a bunker to catch up. Following the show, this video was sent around Facebook and Twitter where many captions related to the song. If your fans connect to what you post, they are more likely to share the content on their social media pages.

  1. Give Your Fans Something

During the program, Andy Samberg gave out an email address and password for an HBO Now account and as it turns out, it works! This was a big hit among viewers, especially those who are using the account for free. Whether it is a discount or free item, post online about deals and offers you can give your customers.

  1. Be Surprising

One of the biggest highlights of the night was when Tracy Morgan came out to present the final award. This was a triumphant return after his 2014 car accident that left him with a traumatic brain injury. Whether you use a guest blogger or hold a contest, keep your social media marketing suspenseful and interesting to follow.

The Emmy’s are a great time to see big stars and social media marketing tips. Just like the show, remember to make your content sharable, give something to your fans and be surprising. What other tips did you learn from the show?
