In part one of our multi-post series, we discussed the importance of social media in the
creative marketing strategies of small businesses. We introduced the first three steps that small businesses could take to gain better understanding and control of the YouTube social media platform. Today, we introduce three more steps to ensure that the creative marketing strategies of a small business owner effectively aid in the expansion of brand recognition and fan following.
After creating a YouTube channel for your small business, it is important to have a full understanding of the impact that the YouTube channel can have on your own creative marketing strategies. We have compiled a list of 9 essential steps for YouTube success and continue by introducing the next three steps. They are:
- 1. Stay organized: YouTube content can be uploaded and organized in a multitude of ways, and ensuring that content is available in a viewer friendly format will help create an environment that viewers will appreciate. Consider organizing your small business’ content into playlists for easy watching.
- 2. Watch for profanity and offensive commentary: There is no way to prevent individuals from posting negative comments or offensive words on social media (even if you have a code of conduct). However, you do have the power to monitor activity and remove vulgar or offensive content if it could affect the long term opinions of the fans or followers of your small business. This does not mean that it is OK to delete every negative comment posted, but rather that comments made in especially bad taste can be removed as courtesy to others. By implementing this standard into your creative marketing strategies, you are also conveying a sense of morality and value into your social media activities.
- 3. Encourage fan engagement: It is easy to simply post a video and wait for someone to discover it, but instead of playing the waiting game, try to begin a conversation with viewers. Be sure to appreciate the efforts of others using YouTube within their own creative marketing strategies. Favorite videos, subscribe to channels and comment on the content that you find especially useful; this will hopefully result in activity on your own content.
These three tricks are few of many. As always, be sure to check back next week for the final three steps for ensuring small business social media success.
