This is a continuation of our Social Media Platform Profile series.

You’ve set up a LinkedIn profile. Your picture shows off that 1,000-watt smile, your work history is solid and you’ve even been endorsed for a couple skills by various connections. Now what? It’s time to start using those fancy features that LinkedIn has added for the benefit of business professionals like you.

It’s time to get fancy.

Updates

It’s a big white box that stares you in the face each time you log on. Have you used it? Like Facebook, this shiny box allows you to post your point of view and things that interest you. Unlike other social media platforms, this is not the space to rant about your last relationship or post cat videos. Stick with posts that are educational, informative or ask a valid question to fellow connections.

“Get introduced”

Ever want to reach outside of your social media network without the awkward cold call or email? LinkedIn has a nifty feature called “Get introduced” that allows you to send a message to a targeted professional via a mutual connection. Heads up: make sure you know the mutual connection well enough to state reasons why you should be connected to the new person.

“Groups You May Like”

Like any social media platform, LinkedIn operates off algorithms to figure out what LinkedIn groups are best suited for you. LinkedIn looks for similar attributes between you and other connections and suggests these groups to you. For more information about LinkedIn groups, visit our post from last week.

“Professional Portfolio”

One of the newest LinkedIn features, Professional Portfolio, allows you to add photos and video to your profile and social updates similar to that of other social media platforms. To use this feature, simply click the paperclip on the right side of the share box and attach a file or URL.

“Who’s Viewed Your Profile”

This LinkedIn feature is more than just checking out what possible connections have sneaked a peek at your profile. You can now gain insights about how often your profile is viewed and what connections or groups you have in common with these viewers.

These are just a few features this business social media platform has to offer. What are your favorite Linkedin benefits?
